~owl love~

Owls. Love them up. I made these ones out of felt, from an idea I saw here. I think I'll hang them somehow. No doubt you have seen this video where I learned that lovely owls can smile.
On their backsides they needed something else. To hide the knots and such and send a message of love. A little Stitch Witchery Fusible Web on some linen, some hand-cut stamps, and these little owls are ready to spread their love in the world. Valentine's Crafts can't be beat.
Yummy, dense bread, and easy too. Full of all things wonderful and lots of different kinds of flours, currants, pumpkin seeds, molasses, and nutritional yeast. Best. Toast. Ever.

Here is what it looks like this morning.
Like winter!
Finally.

  1. Sorry, Anon, have been away from the computer!

Yes, I got it from a friend and I have not been able to figure out anyplace online that listed the recipe. So I had no link to link to! I think it's pretty forgiving and flexible. For example, I had no millet or kelp or bran so I sort of fudged that part. Also I didn't use the extra 2 c. flour, entirely, just made it workable and kneadable. Also, it makes 3 loaves and I have only 2 loaf pans, so the last time I had larger (taller) loaves because I reallocated that extra to the two pans.

It's called Bread to Live By:

    2 T. baking yeast
    1 c. molasses
    2 T. oil

Put all of these ingredients in a large bowl in a 200 degree oven for a half hour:
    3 c. whole wheat flour
    4 c. white flour
    1/2 c. millet
    1/2 c. corn meal
    1/2 c. wheat germ
    1/2 c. bran
    2 T brewers/nutritional yeast
1 c. sunflower seeds (I liked pumpkin better)
    1 T. kelp
    1 T. salt
    1 c. currants

Just before the 1/2 hour is up, put 2 T. yeast (regular baking) into 1 c. warm water and dissolve.
    Add 1 c. molasses, 2 T oil.
Add all of this to the dry ingredients.

Now add 3 c. hot water to this mix and 2 c. more white flour (this is where I sort of fudged it---3 c. of water seemed a lot, just go a little at a time).
Knead. Add more flour if you need to.
Divide into 3 (or 2) loaves.
Let rise in pan in a 150 degree oven. When doubled in size turn up to 350 and bake a half hour or until done.
    YUM.
